I am a full supporter of the 80-90/20-10 principle: Engage in a healthy lifestyle that includes smart nutrition, regular fitness and activity, good quality sleep and low stress 80-90% of the time and save that 10-20% of the time for when life gets in the way. Life getting in the way means different things for every person--maybe it’s the regular Friday night pizza, wings and beer night with friends, or cake on your birthday, or cheesecake on your anniversary. Maybe it’s ice cream sundaes with your kids or donuts for breakfast. Or maybe, it’s the need to have a piece of chocolate every single night after dinner! All of those can fit into an overall healthy lifestyle. I have worked with dietitians in the past who have gotten upset with their clients for having a Snickers bar after a stressful day at work--THAT IS NOT ME! I am a realistic person when it comes to all of this. I am not the food police!

I have two kids. I take them through the drive thru. We order pizza! We eat ice cream! I love fried foods, candy, desserts, hamburgers, and macaroni & cheese. However, I also love vegetables, fruits, lean protein, avocados, nuts and all the other nutritious foods out there that supply good healthy nutrition for a strong body. I do love exercise, but some days, I just need a break from it and I allow myself that time off--without guilt! But how did all of this interest and passion for nutrition and a healthy lifestyle get started? It started when I was 13 years old.

I am very passionate about health, wellness and living a healthy lifestyle…However, I do not expect perfection (where is the fun in that?!)

That year, on Valentine’s Day, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. After my diagnosis, I met with a dietitian who I instantly loved. She was this vivacious red head, full of energy and when my mom and I walked out of her office after our first appointment, I looked at my mom and said “I want to be just like her someday!” I stayed on that course, attending Washington State University (go Cougs!) graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food, Science & Human Nutrition and haven’t looked back. I understand the people that I work with and the challenges that they face. I know what it is like to have to pay attention to the foods you are eating, to say “no, thank you” at times to certain foods, to have to count calories and carbohydrates. I know what it is like to have to be on the treadmill even if you don’t like to exercise. I know what it’s like to be unhappy with my body and the frustrations that come with that. In other words, I can relate to the challenges you face.

“It is so much better to manage your health,
than to have it manage you.”

I love working with people and helping them work towards and reach their own personal health goals.

I love that smile and excitement in their eyes that comes with seeing the blood tests come back with improved numbers or the scale that shows a more favored weight or the fact that they can bench press a heavier weight than they could two months ago. The pride and motivation they have for these enhancements to their health is life-changing!

And I want to help you do the same! It is so much better to manage your health, than to have it manage you. Let me help you be the director of your health. Let me help to empower and inspire you to lead a happier, healthier life! I can’t wait to work with you!
